SeniKome PengHeng, East Coast Arts & Cultural Centre is a place where exploration and inspiration come together featuring a thematic showcase of visual and performing arts, and cultural essences from Peninsular Malaysia’s East Coast states, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan from July to September. Good news to the traditional art enthusiasts. You may want to pay a visit to the centre in these two months when different art formed are showcased every weekend.
Songket is a piece of breathtaking traditional Malay fabric, which belongs to the brocade group of textiles. The term songket comes from the Malay words ‘menyongket’, meaning to embroider with gold and silver threads. Now days with the combination of colourful metallic threads and vibrant designs, songket is regarded as the ‘King of Malaysian Textile’.
Quail trapping is an excellent way to obtain the little birds without shooting them.
Batik is the prime handicraft of Malaysia especially in the east coast of Malaysia. Batik is produced by applying wax and dye on cloth materials. Nowadays, the equipments used for the batik production is printmaking block, wax mixture, fabric, dye and a table. The most suitable fabric for making batik is white cotton.
Get to witness the beauty of batik-making, a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using wax as a dye repellent.
Malay Gamelan
Pahang was the first Malay state which introduced a form of palace ‘ensemble’ music in early 19th century. The beauty of the dulcet tones and the delicate movements possess an inherent mystical uniqueness that must be perpetuated because it is a legacy left behind by generations past.
Congkak is a mancala game of Malay origin played in Malaysia. It has simple rules that allow the boards to have different number of holes.
